The 2021 Competition means new rules! NHDAZ is in compliance with all NHD rules. Be sure to read the new rules here!

The Arizona Historical Society is the Arizona Affiliate for National History Day, managing and coordinating the National History Day program throughout the state. Teacher recruitment and training workshops prepare teachers for successfully guiding students through the program. Student workshops help students select the right competition platform for their topic, and teach them the components of a successful project, as well as hands-on assistance with their specific projects. For more information on the National History Day in Arizona program, visit the Arizona Historical Society website.

Students, parents, teachers, and the Arizona community is invited to join us for public viewing of NHDAZ projects. The showcase will open on the day of the Award Ceremony.

What to expect during the competition:

The 2021 Virtual Arizona Competitions will have a judging period that concludes before the awards ceremony. Students are to submit their projects before the award ceremony so that judges may evaluate the entries. Students may choose to upload a short interview video, explaining how they chose their topic, what they learned, and why they love National History Day. As with the in-person competition, the interviews are a professionalizing tool only and are not an opportunity to make a case for their project.
